Sometimes, inspiration is right in front of you

Hops & Bottles was looking for a brand that would stand out among Boise’s increasingly crowded beer scene. The beer parlor, located in the old Alloway Electric building in the Linen District, pours draft beers — but the main attraction is its selection of bottled beers.

Designer Shailey Sievers hand drew the earliest concepts for the Hops & Bottles brand identity but initially rejected the winning concept. Luckily, Paul caught sight of her sketchbook and asked her to develop her illustration further: A collection of fonts captured in the shape of a bottle. “Sometimes, the most obvious ideas are the best,” Shailey says.

The visual identity came to life with an assist from designer Lauryn Medeiros, and the result is both old-fashioned and clean. A dark shade of slate blue anchors vibrant yellow accents that give a nod to the liquid gold in every bottle the business sells.

Carew Co is also working on the new Hops & Bottles website. So far, working with Hops & Bottles has been a win-win — the clients are happy with the work, and we’re happy they bring beer to every meeting.
